About Dr. Geri

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience.  We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Dr Geraldine Kerr, LMFT

Hello!  I am Dr. Geri

Thank you for visiting my site, and for wanting to learn more about awakening to spirituality in our lives.  In therapy or in coaching, it is meaningful for me to help others work through their issues related to grief, loss, trauma, relational issues, or life transitions from a spiritual perspective.

As we complete our tasks and feel good about what we’ve achieved in our daily lives, we may also become aware of a nagging sense of something more that is coming into our awareness.  This “something” is not ego-driven or fact-based but rather is coming into our awareness on an intuitive level.  Meaning, that as you complete what may be understood as your “objective” goals and tasks, you also become aware of something more that is beginning to awaken within you on a subjective level.  As your “subjective” needs are waking up, they are connecting with you intuitively.  These subjective needs are close to our hearts, connected to our higher consciousness, and are longing to be fulfilled.  Connecting with our higher consciousness is the path toward awakening to spirituality within us.

Awakening to spirituality within us represents a shift into higher consciousness within ourselves, where we embrace and become more attuned to something More within us.  It is a shift away from living ego-driven, self-centered lives into greater awareness of the uniqueness of who we are in God’s love.  It is a shift from “doing” to “being”.  Awakening to spirituality within ourselves encompasses a sense of peace, connection, and longing for Oneness with God who lives within us.

Awakening to spirituality in this way connects us to our whole selves in life.  No longer solely task and achievement-oriented, we become aware that we are part of a bigger picture. Understanding the meaning that you are more than your role in life opens doors to understanding more of who you are in God’s love.  It raises awareness that we are connected to each other as brothers and sisters in the world, and that we each have a role to play in helping to bring God’s gift of life and love alive within and among us.

Awakening to spirituality can happen suddenly or slowly.  Awakening to one’s spiritual self can stem from trauma, loss, grief or other painful life events, or more slowly as one becomes aware that greater purpose and meaning is missing in their life.  Regardless of what triggers the awakening to one’s spirituality, the gift is that through becoming awakened and aware, one is positioned to live a fuller, more meaningful, purpose-driven life.

Awakening to spirituality within ourselves oftentimes means challenging the story of who we were told to be (or not be) in our earlier lives.  Each of our stories is unique, filled with meaning and understanding.  I truly believe that our God of love wants us to understand our stories with understanding and compassion, so that we better understand where we have come from and where we yet want to go.

Growing beyond pain, hardships or old wounds might seem daunting.  However, remaining stuck within the remnants of unresolved pain can be even more daunting.  Unresolved pain can incline us to become separated from who we truly are.  Growth that can emanate from pain, loss, trauma, conflict and hardships in life can be some of the most rewarding work you will ever do.  Awakening to spirituality within you supports and strengthens you to become more of who you really are, with God’s love within you.  Awakening to spirituality is a choice toward greater peace and wholeness in your life.

Should you choose to become more aware of awakening to spirituality in your own life, I am more than happy to help you!
